Thesis/Dissertation Award for Empirical Research

PURPOSE: The purpose of the Thesis/Dissertation Award for Empirical Research is to encourage empirical research in the field of Drama Therapy.

ELIGIBILITY: To be eligible for the Award, the applicant must have:

Completed empirical investigation in the field.

Utilizing standard and/or Drama Therapy measurement methods

AS PART of a thesis or dissertation in fulfillment of a graduate degree in drama therapy or an academic discipline related to drama therapy.

September 1st – August 31st

Each year the Thesis/Dissertation Award for Empirical Research is open to theses and dissertations completed within the calendar year previous to the deadline.  You may submit at anytime after you have passed your oral examination.  In other words, you do not need to wait for the deadline!

1. Abstract of thesis or dissertation addressing the following:


The problem your research addressed.

The relationship and importance of your research to the advancement of Drama Therapy.

Brief outline of methodology used including design, measures, and sample selection.

2. Cover letter addressing the following:

Your basic contact information including: name, address, phone numbers, and email.

Name of school, degree program, and academic advisor and/or BCT.

Additional details on any items in the Abstract you feel merit further comment in relation to the award guidelines.

Plan for dissemination of findings.

Date thesis or dissertation was successfully defended.

3. A letter of support from your faculty supervisor.

4. Electronic Copy of approval letter for your research from your university's Internal Review Board (IRB) in pdf or Word document

NOTIFICATION: The Research Review Committee will respond to candidates no later than October 1 to inform them if they have been accepted for a full review. At that time, candidates will need to submit an electronic copy of their thesis or dissertation to the Drama Therapy Fund.

Notification of the award will be made by the end of the calendar year.

Winners of the award will be posted on the Drama Therapy Fund Website and announced in the North American Drama Therapy Association newsletter.
